New Lotus Club Members

Dear fellow Lotus club members

The following serves by way of introduction for the following recent inductees into the Lotus club;

Pete - middle aged business executive (ie old, burnt out employee). Recently sold a shelby cobra after realising there error of his ways and seeing the Light. Divine Intervention resulted in buying an 05 Exige NA. Well engrossed in the mid life crisis. Looking forward to plenty of camaraderie and the occasional beer. Good mate of Craig S (aka the Clown).

Aaron (aged 15) - knows everything, likes long hair and loud music, favourite words are "gay" (ie not good) and "bogan" (ie not good), lives in bedroom. Eats cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Reminds everyone that he knows everything. Has done a few non speed motorkhanas and knows everything about driving. Life goal is to bust his dad's butt to get him on the race track. Getting L's next year.

Cameron (aged 13) two years off knowing everything. Only eats cereal or breakfast and lunch. Good friend of Liam Sheppard (aka the slot car champ). Loves to drive and has also done non speed motorkhanas. Life goal is to fight with older brother.

Due to limited seats, you may notice one of these new inductees floating around the pits. Subject to the Sheriff's mood on the day, you may notice both.

Look forward to catching up with all of you.

Cheers

Wollombi Run 15Th May

Looking at going for a drive out to Wollombi on Saturday 15th May if anybody is interested in joining me. Woodson from Sydney is heading up (2 x krypton exiges on a play date ). If anyone from Newcastle is interested, Edgeworth McDonalds would probably be the most central prior to the run over Mount Sugerloaf through Kurri, Cessnock and to Wollombi. Meet up at Wollombi Tavern for Brunch/Lunch (Open at 10am). There is a paddock beside the tavern for parking. Possibly complete the day by a run up the Bells Line of road to Singleton and back to Newwy.

For those from Sydney, there are some great roads to explore on the way to Wollombi.

Anyone interested in meeting up?

Drag Night - April 21St

Leave the sequins and high heels at home, grab your helmet and racing shoes and bring your Lotus drag racing.

If we can get enough entrants WSID will give us our own lane. This night will also give us an opportunity to get performance data from a good cross-section of cars.

How does a Honda-powered Elise really stack up against a fast Audi, Rover or Toyota-powered car?

How accurate are Lotus claimed performance figures for the various models?

Who has the fastest reaction time?

Who has the fastest 60ft, 1/8 mile and 1000ft times?

Who has the fastest terminal speed?

There may or may not be a burnout comp and dancing girls but regardless it should be a lot of fun. Depending on the number of entrants you can expect between 6 and 10 runs during the evening.

There is more to driving than just going around corners (or so I've heard).

A Night In Bright

Guys

A few of us have been toying with the idea of a full two days of fun roads, with an evening of chatting with mates, drinking a few shandies and generally unwinding in between.

Thinking at the moment is to head to Bright in the Victorian Alps, on the basis that we know there are outstanding roads both down, there and back, and we might be able to persuade some of the Mexicans to have a similar drive up to join us.

So, plan as it stands at the moment is as follows:

Leave crack of dawn Saturday morning from Sydney, picking up southerners on the way south to Yass.
At Yass, head off into the wilderness following the by now well-worn route (avoiding ants nests Zed) to the Beechworth/Bright area that avoids any more of the Hume Hwy.
Arrive in Bright/Beechworth at around 6pm, pretty well worn out.
Shower and change for a pre-arranged dinner at a local venue (TBC) and bed at a cheap and cheerful motel or similar.

Up in time for breakfast on Sunday and a relatively prompt departure for those that want to do the twisties back home, or a bit later for those happy to head to the Hume and grind home that way.

So, first up we need to find a weekend when there isn't racing, and probably before the end of April, as otherwise the weather starts getting a bit temperamental.

So put your vote against the options above, and let's go from there.

Track Day Wakefield Park Tuesday 2Nd February

received an email from Bart Mawer today. for thos who don't know Bart, acquaint yourselves all about Barton Mawer

he's been an excellent driving tutor to me and is methodical and precise in his instruction. highly recommended.

details below:

After spending time at the circuit instructing in various roles, Barton has decided to host his own track day at Wakefield Park on Tuesday 2nd February. The day is aimed at high performance road cars and track prepared cars. Drivers of all levels will be catered for. There will be an open pit lane all day except lunchtime allowing plenty of premium track time.
As an exciting incentive, Barton will be selecting a lucky entrant out of a hat in the morning to drive 5 laps in his Porsche 996 Cup Car with Barton instructing. This will certainly get someone’s heart pumping!
The options for the day are:
1.	Circuit use $375 + GST/car
2.	Circuit use including access to driver instructors. These will include high calibre instructors such as international Porsche racer Barton Mawer and 2009 Australian GT champion David Wall. We aim for quality attention for drivers so a maximum of 4 drivers/instructor will be organised at a total cost of $500 + GST/car
3.	We welcome an additional driver at $250 + GST or with instructor $375 + GST
Each driver needs their own helmet. These can be hired at the circuit. Clothing must cover neck to wrist to ankle. Covered shoes must be worn. CAMS S2 licence and up are accepted, as are Wakefield Park licences, which can be purchased on the day at the circuit($50).
There are limited positions available so to ensure maximum track time email to bart@bartonmawer.com or call Bart direct on 0424857926
We will also be offering “Hot Laps” in the Porsche 996 Cup Car at lunch time. This is a rare opportunity to see the techniques of a professional in a dedicated race car. Each person will receive an out lap, a flying lap and an in lap. Cost is $495 + GST/head so book in quickly if you want to secure a spot.
The cafe will be open for refreshments and lunch at drivers own expense.
Time table:
8:30 am drivers briefing and draw for winner of Porsche Cup Car drive
9:00 am Circuit open. Fastest cars/drivers will be invited out first
12:30 pm lunch
1:15 pm circuit re opened
4:30pm circuit closed

Those of you that know Kris will know that, apart from her abiding love of chocolate, she and Geoff have an Esprit, which until March at least (when the latest member of the CLA is due to be born!) is the love of their lives; to that end, this meeting is aimed at bringing together a significant gathering of Esprits for a photo call.

All are most welcome - non-members will be particularly well received - come and see what it's about - not that different to one of the AE gatherings, just some other cars to talk sh*t about!
2009_Christmas_Party_Flyer_and_Form.pdf (605.73K)
: 2

Please find attached a Flyer with Booking Form for the Club Lotus Australia Christmas Party and Concours, being held on Sunday 29-November.

The venue is Enzo's in the Hunter Valley (www.enzohuntervalley.com.au) where we will hold the Concours, followed by lunch.
For those interested, an Observation Run will leave Turramurra at 07:30 (be there at least 15 minutes earlier!) and follow a scenic and fun route to our venue. For those who want more time for breakfast, a Group Run will follow, leaving at 08:15 (again, be there early). And for those making their own way there, directions to Enzo's are in the attached flyer.
The Concours will kick off at 11:00 sharp, followed by lunch at 12:30.
Lunch will be a real treat - set menu but with 7 dishes to tempt your taste buds. There is also a separate children's menu with 3 choices of mains. Please note, drinks are not included but can be bought separately on the day.

For the children, Santa will be visiting with presents - so please make sure to put their names on the booking form!

Now the important stuff (sorry, some of it is boring - but important):

YOU MUST BOOK IN ADVANCE.
- We must confirm with Enzo's the week prior so we need booking forms and payment received by 21-Nov.
- Forms can be posted to me or scanned and e-mailed (enicholls@clublotus.com.au).

YOU MUST PAY IN ADVANCE.
- Payment can be by cheque or direct deposit. $60/head for adults, $20/head for children.
- If paying by cheque, make it payable to Club Lotus Australia and send it with your booking form.
- If paying by direct deposit (internet or through a bank branch) the details of the Club's bank a/c are on the booking form. Please note, it is MOST IMPORTANT that you include a payee reference (i.e. shows on CLA's a/c) which says XMAS and includes your name - e.g. "XMAS J Smith" - and write the details (reference and date) on the booking form before you send it to me.

OBSERVATION AND GROUP RUN.
- These will leave from Turramurra at 7:30 and 8:15 respectively. Meet in Kissing Point Road, just off the Pacific Highway.
- The lead cars will depart on time, so please make sure you get there 15 minutes early to get your questions, directions, etc.

QUESTIONS?
- Contact Ashton Roskill (Ph: 0408 202 208, E-Mail: ashton_roskill@hotmail.com) or Elliott Nicholls (enicholls@clublotus.com.au).

Guys

We are trying to establish a more regular CLA gathering, and given that we now contribute significantly to the overall membership of CLA, it'd be great to get a few familiar faces along!

The principle is that we will try to arrange shed visits where they will interest members, and otherwise just gather for a beer and steak at the Woolwich Pier Hotel.

This month is one of the latter, so hopefully we'll see a few of you there next week!

It's here for those that are geographically challenged

Drive Day was Sunday 18th October 2009 now Sunday 8th November 2009

Given that this is now private, we can post the routes and plans for runs with impunity - well, until that fat slob the Pigster appears

So here's the plan for Sunday 18th October - so far it's looking like about five cars - Matt, Reeves, me and a couple of clubies that actually like driving twisty roads - which will be a nice sized group, but if a few more can make it, so much the better!

Route as follows:

The plan at this stage is to head south from Sydney, have brunch in Berry, then head up into the highlands, where we can decide whether to have some fun around the roads there (and perhaps pop in to say hi to the Mackies if they are receiving guests!), or try to complete a full circuit (which might be ambitious) taking in the Goulburn - Taralga - Oberon - Katoomba route - the full route looks like this
