Hi Guys,
I have put together another EMR for your driving enjoyment. This run will start at Eltham Lower Park (Mel map21 H10) meet at 8.30am for a 9am start, with coffee stop at Broadford and Lunch at Toolangi.
The suggested return road would be either Chum Creek Rd or Myers Creek Rd, both fantastic driving roads with heaps of tight bends.
Have secured the Toolangi Tavern for 35 people so places are limited. If you are attending and wish to pre-book your lunch seat, please email me (post). Lunch is a two course meal for $25.
Look forward to seeing you all there.

Motorkhana Day - Deca Sat 14Th August

Hi All,

An FYI for those who want to learn more about their car's handling characteristics on a skidpan.

The Skyline Club of Vic is again running their Multi-club Motorkhana day at DECA Shepparton on the 14 August.

It typically consists of half the day on the skidpan, then a couple of runs on the long and short Tarmac courses known as the "Wangs", and then finishes off with car v car battles back on the skidpan.

The Houserocca and I went to the last one they ran in June and must say was the best day in the car Ive ever had. Seriously Fun, Safe, good bunch of car people and learnt so much about how to drive my car in anger. Nothing like a bit of power oversteer to keep the smile on the dial!!! Serioulsy highly recommended for All!!!

And to cap it all off its only $85 for the day. You cant lose!!

Only issue is there is 50 places then a reserve list. It books out in like 5 days so if keen - get on board ASAP.

Details here > Supp Regs and Entry

No course details for this event yet....but the last one in June looked like this -> SKidpan Courses
My entry is in already!

Tyre Warming

For the benefit of those who are interested in the topic I have have pulled out this section from the autosport forum.
Bear in mind that these guys know the technicalities of the subject and may be using electric tyre warmers in the pits like the bikers do. The driver skill levels assumed in the discussion do not generally apply to sprint events.
Jonathon Stoeckel (Baz) was spot on in his assessment of the tyre warming situation at Phillip Island in regard to the imbalance between front & rear - this is mentioned in the referenced discussion.
Hope all of you gain some insight into this topic.

Weaving Has Been Disallowed

For those of you who do not know here is a bit of background. At a recent MSCA event at Phillip Island one of our Elise friends came off the circuit during the warmup lap and incurred significant rear clam damage. This happened due to the fact that he didn't have very much experience in weaving the car to create heat in the tyres. Though he was not travelling at an unsafe pace the lack of experience and probably a slippery surface off racing line would have been contributing factors.

Our LCV/MSCA representative has strongly indicated that he wanted to see an end to this practice by legislating this as unacceptable and unsafe behaviour. It was suggested that the primary aim of such legislation was to reduce the chances for delay between sprint sessions. Various posts were generated, which clearly indicated an overwhelming support for the practice from the Aussie Elise fraternity. It was suggested this was a safe and widely accepted practice across the motorsport landscape and that they would not be happy to see this change in the rules due to an isolated incident. It was percieved as a knee jerk reaction and many did not accept the provided reasoning. It was suggested that making such changes could actually have an adverse effect on safety by forcing drivers to enter the first flying lap on cold tyres and brakes. It has been proven in many circles of motorsport that these activities also served to confirm if there were any mechanical issues in a safer environment before entering full racing pace.

The community were recently advised that the changes were made and are soon to be enforced (see text below) and the latest thread can be found at http://aussieelises.com/index.php?/topic/1058-msca-sprint-events/page__pid__15684__st__0&#entry15684.

Note that "Sudden Braking" is also banned.

The purpose of this poll is to gather a quantifiable response to this change.

For the benefit of all competitors in MSCA Sprint Events the following items are listed,
1. The out lap(s) will remain under yellow flag conditions. Competitors are not permitted to pass. However, competitors are urged to complete the lap(s) at as brisk a pace as conditions permit and faster cars should be positioned at the top of the dummy grid.

2. The MSCA Committee minuted a decision to not permit cars deliberately weaving across the track during sprint events.

3. The Committee noted erratic and unsafe driving which,if observed will result in the responsible driver being black flagged. Competitors are reminded that sudden braking is not permitted, other than e.g.avoid an accident.

The Supplementary Regulations are currently under review.

Competitors should remind themselves that Sprint Events are entry level motorsport so run groups may include novices and all grades of skill thru to professional driver. The MSCA carefully considers the driving behaviour at the events in the competitors interests so you should discipline your driving under all conditions.

Following my earlier post, I keep remembering that I have saved YouTube addresses of hot laps to get the best racing line, but keep forgetting to look at them before a track day (no Alzheimers as yet).
Can we start a thread to which the fastest lap times are uploaded by those with cameras. I know there is more to it than the right line (eg late braking balls, tyres, nitrons, bhp and so on), but at least it may have helped the 9 Elises' stay ahead of the TR8 during practice last Sunday.

If you are happy with this - and Alec, please upload your hot lap, Lotus Elise/Exige will rule!

At Winton this weekend 6 & 7 March, sees the start of the 2010 circuit racing event calendar, with entry numbers reportedly close to 200 cars.

The program features 13 practice & qualifying sessions on Saturday morning, with the first of 28 races commencing at 1:30 PM Saturday, and then also from 9:00 AM Sunday.

I believe a number of National Formula Ford teams have entered (Sonic & G Force), as a final hit out before their first round at the AGP later this month.

Categories racing this week-end are:

· Formula Vee,
· Porsche 944,
· MG and Invited British Cars,
· Improved Production,
· Super TT & U2L Sports Sedans,
· BMW E30.

Good luck Dave Mottram racing in the newly set up Series One Elise. We look forward to results, feedback and lots, lots more.

PS how do you get 'invited' into the Invited British Cars section!? Do you have to have a K engine or will Toyo pass muster?

Happy to organise in the Elsternwick area, plenty of choice from pizza, Greek, and so on depending on the cost - plus parking should not be a problem.

Msca Sandown

Hello, anyone interested in bringing Peter Kotsa out for the day? He shoots for Events O'Neill- excellent track shots and very skilled.

If we can get about 500.00 together (say 50.00 each) we can all get some great high res track action- the motion blur shots you've always wanted, etc etc.

He has shot my car on the track a few times and the images are really great plus he's a nice guy.

I'll be in if others are. Normally he charges 150.00 or so for a CD of about 50 images.

Any one else in?

Check him out at
